Electric current is one of the basic concepts of physics and electronics that is used in most electronic devices. In this article, the definition of electric current, its units and measurement methods, types of electric current and its applications will be discussed.

1- تعریف جریان الکتریکی

Electric current is the flow of electrons in a material. This electric current, for an electronic device, represents the number of electrons that move from one point to another in a certain time. Electric current is defined as a vector in the direction of electron movement.

2- واحد جریان الکتریکی

The unit of electric current is Ampere. One amp is equal to the current that creates one watt of power in a circuit with a resistance of one ohm. According to this definition, it can be said that one ampere is equal to the current that creates one coulomb of electrons in one second.

3- روش‌های اندازه‌گیری جریان الکتریکی

Two different methods are used to measure electric current:

Ammeter: With the ammeter method, it is easy to measure electric current. The ammeter is directly connected to the electric circuit and shows the electric current through it.

Clamp ammeter: This method is used to measure electric current in circuits that cannot be easily measured with a direct ammeter. The clamp ammeter is simply placed around the circuit and shows the current flowing through it.

Direct current (DC): In direct current, electrons move in one direction and the direction of electric current is constant.

Alternating current (AC): In alternating current, the direction of the electric current changes periodically. This type of electric current is used in many electronic devices, such as televisions and radios.

Historically, the current I symbol is derived from the German word Intensit, which means intensity. The unit of electric current in the SI device is the ampere. For this reason, sometimes electric current is informally called amperage due to its similarity with the word voltage. But the engineers are unhappy with this kind of unnecessary use.
